The origin of the word Blog is from the term web log. Web Log refers to the system where a user can publish his posts, sometimes, also referred to as articles etc in reverse chronological manner. That means, listing of the recent and the most new post first and then second newest and so on. Actually, blogging began in 1998 as a form of online journal that is frequently updated to discuss whatever one thinks and feels. Blogs have grown since those early times and new blogs are launching at a rate of over 1,20,000 per day, adding to already existing 74.6 million. Blogs are posted in reverse chronological order.

Blogs are run by individuals as well as groups all over the world focusing on any and every topic that comes in ones mind. The most interesting thing is that the user can choose any relevant topic and start publishing his blog. It can be writing poems, stories, or any other topic of a users choice. As they have grown in popularity and readership, more and more people as well as custom software development firms are turning to current news blogs for daily news updates. A handful of powerful blogs now have daily readership exceeding that of medium sized city newspapers.

Most blog readers scan dozens of blogs everyday, but they actually spend very little time on any one blog; thus a bloggers goal becomes to grab the readers quickly and hold them. Readers have only a handful of blogs that they read carefully. You want to be one of them.

Software development companies needs to follow three basic keys for building a successful blog:

Engage with other blogs and your own readers.
Keep the material fresh and exciting.
Provide the content that gives people a reason to return.

Blog readers want to hear opinions; hence bloggers must post whatever comes to their mind. Most of the blog readers focus on the title and the first two paragraphs of the post; based on which they decide whether to continue reading it or switch to a different one. Hence, the title and initial paragraphs must grab the readers attention. Blogs must be written naturally. It is a conversation and must be left opened i.e. a blogger must respond to the readers questions. Reading other blogs is an intelligent way of self analyzing and improving ones posts.

One of the good things about posting a blog is that you do not have to be right all the time. Hence one doesnt have to be perfect. It is okay to be wrong at times.

Some of the best practices that should be kept in mind while writing blog posts are as follows:

1.Titles must be interesting. Try using numbers in the title (example: The 7 Most Nutritious Foods)
2.Image must be included in the blog posts to attract more readers.
3.Links to previous posts of your own must be present.
4.Notify others by announcing your posts on other social networks such as Facebook or Twitter.
5.Comment to others comments in your own blog. This grows the conversation and adds value to your blog post.
