A blog is a very new invention of the internet, and, like most things on the internet, has spread like wildfire. A blog is very much like a bulletin board website: the blog owner makes postings, of regular frequency or randomly, on a specific topic or random topics, and readers can comment them.

Question by Peggy C: Have you ever earned money on the internet by blogging? I see a lot of ads about getting paid for blogging on the internet, but wonder if anyone has any experience to share about this. Best answer for Have you ever earned money on the internet by blogging?:

Hi there! Great question! Most of the sites that "advertise" payment for blogging, in my experience can be very misleading. Many of these sites actually want internet users to "plant" links for various websites drawing users to the sites to purchase goods or services. Some of them promise what sound to me to be very unrealistic remuneration. I wonder what the catch is when I see their ads. I was lucky enough to "land" a free-lance contracted blogging position for a website which featured my area of "expertise" and interest. I blogged for the site, reimbursed per blog entry each day. However the site was closed about 8 months after I had started. I started my own private blog with the same subject material and searched high and low for a website that was hiring "bloggers". I did receive an email from a site that wanted me to run advertising on my blog. In a phone conversation I had with one of the site staff, I was asked if I wanted to earn some "real money", as advertising was paying about .02-.03 for each person that visited my blog. Since they were offering more than minimum wages I signed on. What was required however turned out to be what I considered to be unethical. They wanted their website link posted on various websites and communities that were geared to their focus. To me this is identical to spam, and I refused the position. I kept writing to various websites and communities of my interest and happily I connected with one positively. As a result I am blogging daily now. It is a very genuine site that provides lots of useful information, support and community spirit. I am very fortunate for sure. There are websites that are legitimate and do pay bloggers once they have established a following and can really write interesting, accurate and informative "blog items". They are ethical and do care about the quality of the work that will be offered to the public. These writers add a very resourceful addition for research as well. But some sites are really not upfront or honest about what their purpose really is, so one must be very cautious. It is easy to get burned and disappointed. Hope this is helpful, and I don't want to discourage anyone from exploring possibilities. But a watchful eye and ear is wise. I also suggest that anyone who is in contact with a potential "employer" have phone contact with staff to carefully listen to what they are requesting. Troublesniffer A happy blogger

The best piece of advice I can give you, is host your own blog. Wordpress is free, easy to use and allows you to be in control. If you spend weeks or months building up a blog on someone elses site, you might wake up some morning to see it out of business. If you host it yourself then you don't have to worry about that. Also you can choose which advertisements you want to show and how you want make money blogging.
